We are Moving out and there is a neighbourhood cat who just loves being around our property and seems to always be craving some sort of attention. This has been going on for 3 years!! I put out water all year long for him and other neighborhood cats, and when he has been out for days I

HAVE given him a handful of food. I know I shouldn't, but please believe me I don't on a regular. Just when I know he has been left outside and owners are nowhere to be found. He lives in a house where heavy drug use is present & lots of fighting and yelling. He usually gets forgotten about and is left outside over

night and sometimes days... and this close to winter it's been VERY cold out. Also, super matted fur. I have recently built an insulated cat shelter for him for when he does get left outside so that he has somewhere to keep shelter.

I do have 2 indoor cats of my own and they have a great life. Now my husband and I are moving to a large property and he is fed up as well with the neglect going on. He wants to bring the cat with us to the farm.

So what do we all think?? I'm la terrible person if I just leave this beautiful cat when we move? | don't really want to call animal control because he is older and if he doesn't find a home... then we all know what will happen :( My moral compass is all over the place. HELP!

Glastonn If the cat's been outside for days at a time in the cold with matted fur, that's not a pet situation anymore, that's abandonment. You're not stealing someone's beloved family member here.

sail-lune29 You have my formal blessing to cat-nap. ;) in all seriousness though, I think he would have a much better life going with you.

Aggressive-Aspe... cats left to wander on their own are also left to make their own decisions. This cat seems to have choosing you. This is not the same thing as an indoor outdoor cat who is well taken care of (those are not great due to the environmental impact either, but at least they're not being neglected)

Fishinluvwfeathers I did this when i moved and never once regretted it even slightly. I can't speak for you but if it's immoral to give an obviously neglected animal a life of love and proper care i know i'm super ok with being immoral then. In the

end, what matters is that we take care of the ones that need it. My guy needed 21 teeth pulled and had a bone infection in his ear that required years of treatment but he was so grateful and followed me like a love- powered, orange satellite. No regrets.

Happy_Shock_30... Just take him. They probably won't notice or care. If they do care, don't leave them your new address and they probably won't care enough to try to track him down.
